Sump pump works

We've gotten a record amount of rain in the past 3 days or so, and we finally got to test how watertight our basement is. We heard a "mechanical" sound as my oh-so-handy hubby called it. It sounded like our power garage door closing or a central air conditioner kicking on, but we learned it was the sump pump kicking on. I watched with a flashlight for a while to see how high the water got before it would turn on, and we looked outside at the hose that drained out toward the edge of the yard, which would spew forth water every few minutes or so. So the sump pump appears to be doing its job (*knock on wood*) Yay!

Of course, now that Gabby knows there's something behind those doors, she's trying desperately to get in there. Bad kitty.
